The students learnt about the Dragon Boat Festival (端午节 Duān wǔ jié) this week. The festival is celebrated on 9 June 2016.
It is the day to commemorate the famous poet 屈原 Qū Yuán who was drowned in the Miluo river in China 2,000 years ago. Chinese people celebrate the day by eating rice dumplings (粽子Zòngzi) and having dragon boat races. The students were very interested in learning about the history behind the festival and had lots of fun making paper dragon boats, paper dumplings and playing the dragon boat race board game.
