Thank you to Mrs Ayton for bringing back some gifts for us from China. The students were very excited about looking at the pictures on the post cards, touching the miniature Terracotta warrior and smelling the black tea leafs. They were especially interested in the history behind the construction of the Great Wall of China and the Terracotta Warriors. We had a lot of interesting questions raised by the students, such as 'Why did the Qin Emperor want to bury the warriors?' and 'Why was the Great Wall built?' and 'How long is it?'

The Grade 3, 4 and 5 students have practiced using the resources posted on the Chinese website. I would encourage them to use them at home in order to improve their language skills. Some of the Grade 5 students also had an opportunity to connect to the tutor in Beijing through Skype. The tutoring sessions were booked through the Language Learning Space website http://www.lls.edu.au/home which is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education. During the tutoring sessions, students were able to ask culturally related questions and practise their pronunciation with their tutor in Beijing. |
