Grade One students played a drawing game where they took turns to roll a dice and select parts of the body to create a monster picture. They had fun labelling parts of the body and shared their picture with other classmates.

Grade 1 students are learning the sounds of the animals through singing 'Old Mr Wang Had a Farm' to the tune of 'Old MacDonald Had a Farm'. They made finger puppets and used them to practise the sounds of the animals in Chinese.
Grade 1 students have been learning the words and sentences in the big book 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?' in Chinese. In the photo below, the students are playing a bingo game with a partner where they have to say the name of the animals before colouring in the pictures.
This semester, students in Prep, Grade 1 and 3 are learning Mandarin Chinese. Preps are enthusiastic about coming to the Chinese language classroom. They have been practising how to say hello and count from one to ten. They have participated in activities where they had to read and write numbers.
Grade 1 students have been reading the big book 'Big Bear, Big Bear, What do you see?' in Chinese. They learnt to name the animals in the story and listened to the story read to them via multimedia resources. Grade 3 students learnt to do a simple self introduction, which included their name, age and year level. They interacted with other students in speaking activities to become familiar with the new sentence patterns. Grade 1 & 2 students have been learning to say the names of the food in the story of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar' in Mandarin Chinese. They played a game called 'Shitou, Jiandao, Bu' where they had to play 'paper, scissors, rock' to decide who could get to say the words first. Students enjoyed saying the new words while playing the game.
Last week Grades 1/2 learnt how to use chopsticks and learnt about table manners. They played a chopstick relay game where they had to pick up a piece of pasta with their chopsticks and pass it to the next person. It was challenging for some students but they all had fun playing the game.
Preps are playing the 'Planting Tulips Dice Game' to practise reading the three Chinese symbols for red, yellow and white.
Preps are learning to sing the Pinyin song. They are practising to put the Pinyin cards in the order of the song.
Preps are learning to match the words in the 'Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' song. Grade 1/2s are learning to read the Chinese characters in the 'Ten Little Dinosaurs' song.
